From 06 to 10 years

The Units of Inquiry organize the main conceptual objectives and learning expectations of each grade in the initial years of Elementary School. Students are encouraged to inquire and research into the main ideas that are connected to each unit. In this way, knowledge is always contextualized and worked through by means of research strategies and problem solving, so that our students take an active role in the learning process.
Within the Sphere proposal, the inquiry cycle is used together with the OPEN framework model, which aims to explore all areas of knowledge: social, emotional and physical. Integrated learning is essential for the training of emotionally intelligent and socially conscious citizens.

From 11 to 14 years old

In this cycle, student learning encompasses both disciplinary and interdisciplinary projects, with specialist teachers in each subject area, such as Portuguese Language, English Language, Mathematics, Sciences, Humanities, Arts, Music, Physical Education and Design. Through tutoring classes, our students are guided in their projects and actions are developed to help them become increasingly responsible for their own learning and to develop different strategies for self-regulated learning.

In Elementary School we aim to develop our students´ cognitive knowledge, understanding and skills as well as their social, emotional and physical well-being. This enables all students, throughout their elementary school years, to develop knowledge through educational practices aimed at: learning and using different languages, utilizing diverse resources and sources of information, recognizing themselves as agents of their own learning, appreciating and valuing diverse cultures and taking a critical and responsible position on global issues, by understanding the meaning of, and practicing, citizenship and social responsibility.

What do students learn in Elementary School?

Elementary School aims to develop students' cognitive skills, knowledge and understanding as well as their social, emotional and physical well-being, so that each year students continue to expand on their knowledge through practices aimed at: learning and using different languages, utilizing various sources of information through access to a wide range of resources, recognizing that they are agents of their own learning, respecting and valuing diverse cultures and taking a critical and responsible position on global issues, by understanding the meaning of, and practicing, global citizenship and social responsibility.
